Whatever he damn well wants, apparently…

Hey there, Admin Liz here – that seems the most logical option – to explain him as Renard and Adalind’s second child.
I have no idea how Diana will react to him, but she doesn’t strike me as the type of sibling who would be excited about being a big sister. She more seems like the kinda sister who would ask to bring him back to the hospital or if they can sell him on ebay. Guess we’ll find out pretty soon what kinda powers baby Kelly has, if any. Diana’s started presenting as a defense mechanism when she was running from the Royals, so it wouldn’t surprise me if Kelly’s have been dormant since he was in a relatively safe environment. Now that he’s not necessarily safe, he may start showing off for survival.
I think you’re right in that it would be in character for Adalind. I’m really glad they didn’t have Nick be all suddenly gung-ho in love though, because it would have been terribly out of character for him, even if they didn’t have the history they have.
And I still don’t think they developed it enough for it to make sense for either of them to feel anything except cautiously amicable toward one another at this point. I’m not sure they can go back and fix it now, because they just rushed it for whatever reason and now a lot of fans are left scratching their heads going “where exactly did that come from?”
A couple of episodes ago she was perking up at the sound of Meisner’s name and blushingly, hopefully asking Trubel whether he’d ever mentioned her, and now she’s in love with Nick? Not attracted to, not beginning to have feelings for, in love.
Adalind may be a lot of things, but sentimental she’s not. This direction at this juncture doesn’t make any sense for her and is horrible for Nick. I just don’t know what to do with it except throw up my hands and try to watch around it for the rest of the plot.
ALSO A VERY USEFUL ANTI-WRINKLE CREAM.
…and this is why there are so few Grimms left. Oh dear.
Hey there – admin Liz here. I’d say that you’re probably on the right track. There is something shady going on with this campaign and Renard’s involvement. Since they’re taking so much time with the storyline, I think it’s safe to assume that something big is about to happen.
Sadly, I find it more likely that Kelly will grow up knowing his parents’ story and thinking of his dad’s messed-up life as normal. Especially if they continue with this whole “hiding from the world” thing they’ve been doing. Has the kid ever even been outside?
Liz here – I think that a psychic twin link would be awesome. But, I’m guessing it will be more along the lines of what we saw with Diana. I’m guessing it hasn’t presented yet because of the Grimm half of him. Any other type of magic would be hard to show while he’s still a baby (impo)
I don’t know if Nick has reached “screw it” mode yet so much as he’s running on autopilot. He hasn’t even had time to reach the level of emotional doneness that leads to “screw it” mode. I think he’s dealing with each thing as it comes and not really processing each fresh burden or trauma…and yes, I do think there’s a limit. Nick is still human, after all. There’s only so much most of us can take before we break down. I hope he has a chance to stop, take stock, and deal before he gets to that point.
We do! I did write a jokingly sarcastic response about how it’s a cunning framing device to make us feel more kindly towards Adalind, then I realised I was right and that’s exactly what it is.
In TV and Film there’s a device called Pat The Dog – if the character pats the dog, the audience sees them as a good person. It’s shorthand, if you will, to give people certain characteristics without them actually having to do anything kind or heroic within the story – usually saving time in the film. Harry Potter has it (talks to the snake at the zoo), the Ninth Doctor has it (cuddles a cat), any small act of kindness that the character didn’t have to do, like give change to a homeless person for example, is a Pat the Dog moment.
It’s not always animal based, it’s often used with babies, as in this case. We see Adalind performing various baby related duties with a smile on her face, the baby seems happy, if a person makes a baby happy they must be a good person.
To show Nick handling Kelly would distract from that at present, but to mention that Nick doesn’t do anything for Kelly would mean that Nick is a bad father. So, the only time you see Kelly on screen is with Adalind* so you feel more kindly towards her without her actually having to do anything kind or selfless to anyone else.
I for one would love to see more of Kelly, especially with Nick. I want to see how he feels towards Kelly, rather than the sense of duty he has towards him. I’d actually like to see more of Adalind and Kelly, beyond pat the dog moments. She has a great fear as well as a great longing for motherhood, but I’m sliding off your point here.
We do need more Nick and Kelly, I would like to know how he plans to raise him – knowing of the Wesen world, or not? And other similar questions. I’m really curious.
(*I know they had a couple of scenes together, but mainly it’s Adalind for the reasons outlined above. My drama training ruining TV shows again.)
What did you do to her?
What I had to do!
