Okay guys, here are the prompts for August. Remember: you can submit for one prompt, or all prompts, or just a couple, or you can submit more than one fic for a single prompt if you want! It’s all about having fun and writing fic.

This month’s prompts are all about exploring aspects of the Grimm world and its characters that we know very little about. Thanks to @angel-starbeam for the first three prompts!

Week One (August 5-11)
A World of Trubel: She walked out of the night and into our hearts in season three, and it seems like the Grimm fandom can never get enough of her ever since. But two years later, there’s still so much we don’t know! This week is dedicated to writing fic about Trubel; what does she think? How does she feel? Where does she go when she leaves Portland, and what happens? What was her life like before she met Nick and the team?

Week Two (August 12-18)

Whatever Happened To _____? Nick has encountered a lot of Wesen over the years, and even helped one or two of them. Where are they now? What have they been up to since?

Week Three (August 19-25)
Dianathon! Diana has become one of the most powerful characters on the show in a very short amount of time. She’s a game-changer; a terrifying, adorable little game-changer with really creepy dolls. And how could we not want to know more about this little nugget of destruction? This is the week for all your Diana fics.

Week Four (August 26-September 1)
A Grimm Legacy: The history of the Grimms goes waaaaay back, and we’ve gotten bits and pieces of it from what Nick’s read in his family’s books. But it’s never enough. Where did the Grimms and their powers even come from? How did the first Grimm feel the first time they saw a Wesen woge? What was Great-Great-Grandmother Hilda up to with that awesome dagger back in her day? More recently, did Kelly and Marie have any adventures as young Grimms? The possibilities are endless.

Don’t forget: post your fic as a text post or link and tag your submissions with grimmsummerficathon2016 and the number of the week you’re writing for! You can also post to our AO3 Collection.

Top 5 Grimm Moments by Season

Season 3, #1: Trubel learns the truth in 3×19, “Nobody Knows the Trubel I’ve Seen”

Never have I seen a character introduced so late in the game capture a fandom so completely. Everyone loves Trubel, everyone. I have found no dissenters amongst our ranks. And with the kind of introduction she got in this episode, who could blame us?

Trubel is a–well, troubled young woman who’s had a difficult life, and somehow Jacqueline Toboni manages to portray her as both fragile and tough as nails, all at once. You don’t want to piss Trubel off in a dark alley, but you also do want to wrap her in blankets and feed her bacon. She exudes a perpetual 50/50 mix of “fight me” and “protect her” that is on display in this scene like in no other.

Just imagine: she thought she was alone, all her life. Alone with the monsters and the fear. And then she just happens to bump into someone who tells her that she’s not alone, that not all scary things are monsters, and that she doesn’t have to be afraid anymore. The look on her face says it all: this was the moment a girl who’d been drowning her entire life finally felt her head break the water’s surface.

And it was such a turning point for Nick, as well. Prior to this, he’s had friends and family surrounding and supporting him, but no one who really knew what it was like. Marie and Kelly were raised in it. Monroe and Rosalee grew up in the Wesen world, and their perspective on what it means to be a Grimm is vastly different from his own. Juliette and Hank are (at this point, anyway) both human, and they don’t see the world the way he does, even if they do know what’s out there.

Then suddenly, there’s this girl who gets it. She wasn’t brought up in this. No one explained. No one warned her. She just…woke up one day and saw things no one else could see, things she couldn’t explain. And unlike Nick, she had no Monroe to guide her through it all or have her back when things got rough at the very beginning.

It’s no surprise that Nick is so drawn to help her, or that they bond so quickly and so permanently. The chemistry between them–not even romantic chemistry, just that raw indefinable something that makes certain performances spark off one another–is always incredible, and the roots of that are all here, in this masterful scene.

Season 3, #2: Adalind loses Diana in 3×18, “The Law of Sacrifice”

If this were a list of the show’s most gut-wrenchingly painful moments, this would be in the top three, if not number one. It didn’t matter if you loved Adalind or hated her, none of us could help but feel every ounce of the pain in that scream.

It was also one of the rare instances in the show when I didn’t feel at all conflicted about the choice he had to make: the right decision seems obvious, especially when you see this moment at the end.

Everything about this is so poignant and moving. It’s more than just a symbolic gesture; there’s a very real sense of grieving for something that’s been lost, and of paying respect to past generations. It was a beautiful and relatively rare glimpse into the real heart of the Wesen world, and it’s one of my favorite moments in the show.

Season 3, #4: Monroe proposes to Rosalee in 3×12, “The Wild Hunt”

Monroe and Rosalee’s relationship has to be one of the healthiest, most developed, and most supportive I’ve ever seen depicted on television.

After a year of getting to know each other and working together, and then another year of dating, it finally came down to this fantastic moment. This proposal was absolutely perfect. I can’t watch it without tearing up a little.

And what makes it even better in retrospect is that the show managed to avoid the pitfalls a lot of shows encounter when one of their major couples ties the knot. Monroe and Rosalee are never written with any of the cringe-worthy marital tropes other TV couples suffer through. They’re amazing together, not just a couple, but a team, and I can’t imagine this show without them.
