Monroe to Nick

Nick saying “good boy” to Monroe and the Look Monroe shoots at him. But he doesn’t even grumble because Nick gives him that crooked smile.

It’s clearer every time I watch that there were cracks forming in Nick and Juliette’s relationship as early as episode 3. Maybe even episode 1. The implication is that he’s always been very present and open, and now suddenly he’s gone all the time and closed-off. It’s a real testament to Bitsie as an actress too because a lot of it is conveyed almost entirely via facial expressions and body language, rather than actual dialogue.

I’m pretty sure episode 2 is the last time Nick answers honestly when someone asks him if he’s alright.

Ah, the first time a Wesen does a double-take at Nick wanting to help them instead of just cutting off heads willy-nilly.

Nick looks at Monroe with those big sad eyes and says “because I trust you” and he just…does what Nick wants.

Another fun thing from the first season that I miss in later seasons? Monroe is doing something peaceful at home, minding his own business. Nick interrupts him for Grimm nonsense. He grumbles. Then helps.

They were really pushing us to look at Juliette as sort of a Red Riding Hood/damsel character in the beginning. She wears these really saturated jewel-toned reds SO much for those first few episodes.
