This episode has Everything. The first (unofficial, unwitting) Team Grimm dinner party. Monhardt. Forest training montage. Eisbibers. Heartfelt conversations about helping each other and what it takes to make change happen. Decapitations. Questionable postage. SO many pies.
Prior to this episode, the show had all the Wesen as primarily loners with a few family units. While one got the sense of a wider community from discussions from Monroe & Rosalee, this episode firmly established that Wesen were a culture unto their own. For me, this turns Grimm from a police procedural with supernatural elements into something completely unique.
Plus… Bud was awesome.
Grimm Greatest Hits Overall: Best Episodes of Each Season So Far
Season 1, #2: Next Time Send Your Best in 1×19, “Leave It To Beavers”
For this countdown I gave myself one rule: only one moment per episode. That was partly this episode’s fault, because I love every single moment in it, and could easily have chosen five just from this alone.
But as much as I love moments like Nick and Monroe rolling around the forest floor and Nick’s impassioned plea to the Eisbibers, this episode’s ending just takes the cake for me. It’s such an iconic moment, and it’s also a pretty big line crossed for Nick in terms of the cop/Grimm dichotomy.

Also, just…what a fucking statement.

Ok, how did two human heads make it through customs from Portland, Oregon to Europe? Nick must really have some connections.
Monroe is such a good bro that he doesn’t even ask questions when Nick asks him to show up with a shovel.
Well Nick, it’s a good thing you decided to learn how to use all those weapons in that trailer. And apparently, his hand-to-hand combat skills.
