Season 2, #4: Nick Burkhardt, Fruit Ninja in 2×15, “Mr. Sandman”
This scene was just pure fun at the end of an episode that was equal parts gross (eye parasites, euck) and heartbreaking. Nick isn’t often physically vulnerable, and less and less so as the show goes on and he gets better at being a Grimm. So seeing him so helpless, even for a short time, was disconcerting.
But at the end, we were rewarded with this little tidbit: Nick, in the woods, blindfolded, and being a literal fruit ninja. The only thing better than that? The cocky little smirk Nick aims at the trees as he surveys the fruity carnage he’s wrought.

Have been watching a few random Grimm episodes again, because @fuckyeahnickburkhardt put it on my mind again and. I forgot this show is like 70% comedy, honestly.
Truly a comedy! There are SO many funny moments. And like of the members of Team Grimm, everybody is either a pithy bastard or a sarcastic bastard (or a royal bastard) so like. Hilarity abounds.
Hank is truly such an underrated, underappreciated character. Every single thing he says is so interesting! He knows he’s hot shit but also is bashful when pretty women hit on him. He’s so so brave but terrified of rats. He’s been divorced four times but knows all these random facts because he got interested in his ex wives’ hobbies and jobs and listened to them, like REALLY listened enough to absorb information and recall it years later. He waxes philosophical about a junkyard. He’s loyal to a fault. He’s a protector. He’s so so SO observant and smart. And the show really builds him up as Nick’s partner in the human world equal to how Monroe is Nick’s partner in the Grimm world with such intention. He’s so important! And Russell Hornsby plays him so well.
Hank genuinely needs more love in the fandom. There was a throw away post I saw on here that said something about wanting to write a fic shipping him and Monroe and I seriously thought about just doing a one off fic because I could totally see that working. Them both being incredibly intelligent and aware individuals, yah. It’s a weird ship but I like it!
But also, Hank is just awesome. Post season 1. Cause they had some weird misogyny thing in the writing for him that first season even though he had some cool parts.
Yeah they had some moments where they wrote Hank very weird in season 1 (the “why can’t you just look at her ass like the rest of us” comment comes to mind).
But then they also had things like him remembering specific details about his ex-wife’s interests and job in 1×02, indicating he was a good listener and cared. And rebuffing Adalind’s advances later in the season because he felt it would be inappropriate and taking advantage given she was a victim in a case he worked. I’m very glad those are the character elements they chose to carry forward into later seasons!
I do agree Hank and Monroe would be a GREAT couple! The random bits of esoteric knowledge. The shared penchant for cozy outerwear. And just imagine them bonding initially by commiserating over Nick’s messy impulsive ass and all the drama he gets into. 😂
Grimm fans following me, I need you to know that David Guintoli has played Batman in two animated movies and they both hit extremely hard. He’s an excellent batman.
