Monroe has been my favourite character since I started the show (his character was 50% of the pitch my mother used to get me – a person who HATES gore – to sit down on the couch and watch episode 3. Yeah I watched s1 out of order. Bite me.) I really really vibe with Monroe (I’m autistic and I think he is to), and I am always a fan of what he does.
Monroe has been my favorite almost since he was introduced in the pilot! I feel like he gave Nick a partner in the Wesen world to parallel Hank, Nick’s partner in the human world. I feel like that balance abd the levity he brought were crucial to making the first season work.
Throughout the show he was one of the people Nick trusted most, and he proved a loyal friend. He always took Nick’s side, for better or worse, and while I may not subscribe to that level of loyalty myself, it wasn’t hard to see why it made Monroe one of the most important people in Nick’s life. Plus, he’s just so darn cute with his fuzzy sweaters and many varied interests (craft beer, vegan cuisine, antiquities, Cello, pilates…I’m probably missing some)!
Also you should know, it was SO hard to find a good shot of him by himself, because he was always surrounded by the people he loves most. Tell me that doesn’t make you go 🥺.
This part of s1 is an important turning point for Nick and Monroe too. Just before this Monroe has been trusted with the trailer and saved Hank’s life. Now Nick is treating Monroe more carefully. And when Monroe is in danger he risks his life to save him.
Monroe: *answers the door holding a bloody butcher’s knife*
Monroe: If you tell Juliette the truth it will break her brain.
Also Monroe: So did you tell her yet? No? Chicken.

Poor Monroe. Though you gotta love that his reaction to getting roughed up for working with Nick is basically “well now I’m all in! Gonna work with you even more! Fuck those guys!”
