Welcome to your new and improved Music Mondays! For the next few weeks we will be looking at the music used in the actual series, and then we will continue on in the usual fashion. I will also be clearing up older posts, and, where possible, making fancy 8tracks playlists.

This list is every song used in Season Two – that I could track down and find a playable Internet copy of. Happy listening!

Music Mondays – Rosalee

I picked a mix of songs for Rosalee, songs that remind me of her past and make me think of her present. She’s such a fascinating character who we don’t hear enough about. Here comes a few indie tracks, some Eighties classic, some Steampunk (always) and some loud bouncy club music (always always).

Obviously, trigger warnings for drug abuse in High by the Beach and one of the verses in ET can be read as implied sexual assault, YMMV.

High by the Beach Lana Del Ray
Electric Love BRNS
Leave a Trace CHVRCHES
Try P!NK
It’s Time Imagine Dragons

Music Mondays – Hank Griffin

I will not lie to you, this week’s edition is basically an advert for ELO’s Time album, which is a thing of beauty. Really, I should be encouraging you to listen to the whole thing uninterrupted, but the story of bloke who ends up in 2095 bewildered and astonished about how everything is different and yet everything is the same was just too perfect for Hank. I would also urge you to check Alice and the Night Circus – I saw her live and she was amazeballs, vastly underrated new artist.

(Not paid commission by either of these artists, I hasten to add.)

Do Your Thing Basement Jaxx
Curious World Alice’s Night Circus
Hooked on a Feeling Blue Swede
Oh, Pretty Woman Robson and Jerome
Things in the Fire Bastille
Marry the Night (Zedd Remix) Lady GaGa

Can’t Stop Playing Dr Kucho
Stereo Love Edward Maya
Let’s Get Loud The Baseballs

Next week will be Rosalee.

Juliette Silverton

Juliette buries a lot of herself deep, and it comes out in these huge bursts of fight and passion early in the series, then she becomes tired of her life, and then sinks slowly into darkness as the Hexenbiest takes control. This mix contains a lot of peppy, uplifting anthems and a few darker, sadder songs. If I had to pick one song for Juliette, it would be the first, ‘Fight Song’ by Rachel Platten. Warnings: the video for ‘You’re A Germ’ contains many famous horror movie scenes, ‘Can’t Feel My Face’ implies domestic violence, and although none are particulary in ‘the Guilty Ones’ all the warnings ever for Spring Awakening.

Fight Song Rachel Platten
Because of You Kelly Clarkson

Music Mondays – Adalind Schade

Back on form this week and I’ve got lots of new music to listen to, so expect not only the full 22 song playlist from here on out, but also the Nick Burkhardt to be extended to 22 songs also.

Here is Adalind’s mix, which is full of my favourite rowdy electronic-y songs. If you liked the mix for Sean Renard, you’ll like this one too. Warnings: Some sexual songs, which can seem threatening in the context of Adalind, implied physical and sexual violence in ‘I Like It Rough’ by Lady GaGa. Self image issues explored in ‘Bodies’ by Robbie Williams, which also contains Jesus metaphors which some may find distasteful. Also, body horror in the Muse video, and self harm, suicide and things of that nature in the Britney one.

Dead Inside Muse
How To Be A Heartbreaker Marina and the Diamonds
Primadonna Marina and the Diamonds
Kill my Boyfriend Natalia Kills
Blank Space Taylor Swift

Music Mondays – Series One Playlist

As with all of the Playlists here on FYNB, if you click on the title of the song, the link will take you to a place you can listen to it.

This playlist could possibly be my ultimate Grimm playlist, not just the ultimate Series One playlist.  I’m in love with the soundtrack of the show, which you can buy from Amazon. It’s got dubsteps, deep, mournful cello and then action movie drums and rockstar guitar out of nowhere. It’s fantastic, and I tried hard to emulate that in this playlist. I’ve also selected a couple of songs that have the message of the show in their lyrics, rather than the tone of the music. If you only listen to one song from this list, make it ‘No One is Alone’ which carries much the same message as Grimm. If somewhere were to Grimmify that with some dubstep, drums and a squealing guitar I’d be in heaven.
