Every state is different when it comes to licenses. In Washington state where I live, it’s the last name and then below it is the first and middle names. Then in Texas they don’t even put the weight down. But the way the picture of Monroe’s license looks, it does appear Monroe is his last name. We typically don’t put commas after first names. I don’t know. Maybe Monroe just likes going by his last name. It’ll likely remain a mystery for some time.

I think canon has pretty much Jossed that tie-in photo, tbh. I mean…you have Frank and Alice (his parents) calling him Monroe. When’s the last time you met parents who called their child by his last name? That would be highly unusual.

Then you have their wedding. To be honest I think that was meant to be both a tease and a reveal, because prior to that, there was still some debate over whether Monroe was his first or last name (I mean, his parents could just be really weird right?).

But then you have the officiator at their wedding announcing them as Monroe and Rosalee…and we never get a last name. Which suggests by literally everything we know about names and weddings that we got both their first names but had the last name withheld (it also suggests that Rosalee took his last name, which means we have no idea what her last name is now as well).

So to me at least, that makes the tie-in photo explicitly non-canonical. His first name is Monroe. Will they ever tell us his last name? Well they made us wait three seasons to find out Wu’s first name and whether Monroe was even his first or last name or not…so somehow I see them drawing this little mystery out as long as they reasonably can.

Does Monroe even have a name other than Monroe? I mean, didn’t even his parents call him Monroe? I can’t remember.

They’ve never explicitly told us what Monroe’s other name is. We’re not even completely certain whether Monroe is a first name or a last name, although his parents calling him Monroe certainly seems to suggest it’s his first.

Which means not only do we not know Monroe’s last name, if Rosalee took his name when they got married we now have no idea what her last name is, either!

The whole “Eddie Monroe” thing goes back to the very start of Grimm fandom. There was some kind of behind-the-scenes feature in which his name was referenced as Eddie, but both the writers and Silas have since said that it is not canon, it was never canon…it was something a producer did for some strange reason.

As far as anyone but The Powers That Be (and his parents, I guess) know, he’s just Monroe.

You said you needed fic recs? Have you read Hotel California?

I have not! Although it was on a list I made of things I might want to read at some point, so congrats! Your rec just bumped it to the top!

So next week will be Hotel California by VampirePam, which is seven chapters long, so that will take us to almost to the end of August. In the meantime, I’d still love any of your fic recs, Grimmsters! We still have over two months of Ficblog Fridays to go after Hotel California, after all!

I’m the anon who dislikes Juliette (thanks for not hating me!) I agree about the pushing us to hate her and about Nick needing some sense of normalcy. About him being better off without her though maybe he wouldn’t have been at the start of the season (putting aside personal opinion, that would’ve ruined him) or at any other point but at the end of the season with the writers pushing her so hard in that direction and all she did, I think he’s better off not being with someone who caused him pain

I hear you, anon. A person who hurts you repeatedly and takes pleasure in it is not a person you want to stay in a relationship with. And although I think the nature of human interactions is that we inevitably cause each other pain at times, I do think that if Juliette survives, Nick might forgive her for the things she did but they could never be the way they were again, even if they actually talked everything out and both admitted the places they were at fault and the places they weren’t.

One could also argue it the other way, though: Juliette would have been better off without Nick. She would have been better off not being with someone who lied to her, repeatedly put her life in danger, dismissed her emotions whenever they weren’t convenient for him, and caused her a lot of physical harm as well as emotional pain for several years.

Their relationship was very cute at times, but at others it was one-sided and extremely unhealthy, since the very first season. Nick’s greatest flaw is his self-absorption and avoidance, while Juliette’s is/was that if she loved someone, she would be too accommodating of their wants and needs, to the point of ignoring her own. It was a toxic combination that would have torn them apart eventually, in my opinion. Her transformation and all that followed just hastened things along.

I’m still not over the fact that Juliette burned down Nick’s aunts trailer, I mean that’s his whole family history and all he has left of his aunt. It still hurts me (mainly cause of all of those books that went up in flames).

Believe me, the sight of all those books going up in flames hurt me too…but then I started to think about it a little more. Yeah, it’s the Grimms’ history…but a lot of it is a history of remorseless, unforgiving brutality and ruthless murder.

The Grimms are not a long line of people like Nick, remember. They weren’t feared because they were reasonable and compassionate. Even Nick has been shown at times to be horrified and disgusted by his ancestors’ actions.

So…on the one hand yes, Juliette burned down his trailer full of vital information but on the other, she didn’t by any means burn his family history. Nick’s family history is his memories of his aunt and his father and mother, most of which actually had nothing to do with the Wesen world and the Grimm legacy.

There’s actually no reason whatsoever to think Nick had nothing of his family other than what was in that trailer. The “normal” things, like photo albums, cherished memories of the childhood he had with Marie? I doubt they were there. Why would they be? And why on earth would he value his family’s long history of blood and brutality over that?

Confession time: I never ever liked Juliet but I don’t think I full on hated her until the last bit of the last season. I think Nick is better off without her (no disrespect for Nickette shippers). Please don’t hate me!!

There’s nothing inherently wrong with disliking Juliette because you don’t connect with her character, or don’t think her arc is interesting, or don’t like her choices. My problem–as I’m sure you’ve seen if you follow my rants on FYNB–is with the misogyny behind some of the reasons people cite for disliking Juliette.

But I honestly think toward the end the writers were pushing us to hate her, only to try and pull an about-face and give us emotional whiplash at the end with Nick’s grief over her “death” (I’m still in denial). It worked for me, because I love Juliette, and it worked for some people who just hate to see Nick in pain…but I’m not sure it worked as well as the writers might have hoped for those who fully dove into hating her toward the end. Or maybe the writers just wanted us to hate her and weren’t expecting Bitsie and David to sell it as well as they did. I haven’t decided yet.

But the point is, there’s nothing inherently wrong with disliking a character. I of course disagree that Nick is better off without her, and I really worry what he’s going to do without her around to provide some sense of normalcy and stability in his life…and the lives of the rest of Team Grimm to boot. He wasn’t doing so great towards the end when she was transformed, so I can’t imagine how bad off he’ll be now if she’s actually dead.

But no. I don’t hate you, Nonny.

Do you just take slash recs or are you open to het too?

Hey, if it’s good fic it’s good fic! Het isn’t something I go searching for on my own very often, but if you rec it I’ll check it out!

I also, for the record, will take threesome fic, orgy fic, fic that has nothing to do with sex or ships, AU fic, etc. I would LOVE some good femmeslash recs or fic recs that are centered on the ladies of Grimm.

The only things I won’t accept recs for are rape/non-con fic, crossover fic, and mpreg.

(The last one is just because mpreg is a really big personal squick for me, but if there’s a reeeeeeally good fic out there plot/character/writing-wise that happens to have mpreg in it, and you REALLY want it considered for the Ficblog Friday, I’ll at least take a look at it. No promises though.)

How do you imagine Grimm characters, if they were in high school ? Hahaha How I imagine: Nick= Nick would definitely be the boring nerd or the popular quarterback of the american football team ; Adalind= The bitch cheerleader, who dates Nick(obvious) ; Juliette= The ”nerd ingenue” type, who dreams dating with Nick. She became a little ”popular” after being Adalind’s bff and Juliette becames mean ; Trubel= Nick’s twin sister, who hates Adalind. I really imagine something like this, hahaha

Hi! Well, I went on a bit of a tangent with this in reply to your original post (which I posted to my personal blog here because we really prefer not to post/reblog/answer/reply to things that use misogynistic slurs to refer to the women of the show whether its the actors or characters they play at FYNB), but to sum up if you didn’t see that one:

Juliette is the cute, unassuming nerd girl who reads a lot and goes all Feminist Avenger on people’s asses when they make the mistake of messing with her.

Adalind is the Queen Bee to end all Queen Bees, walking down the hall in her head cheerleader uniform expecting everyone she passes to bow.

Nick is a weird nerd loner artist type, super smart but not motivated to do anything but art. He draws horror comics probably.

Monroe is another weird loner who dresses like an old man, has a full-on beard before anyone else their age, and likes building model trains and cuckoo clocks in woodshop. He’s Nick’s only friend for awhile.

Rosalee moves from another school and is the Intriguing New Hippie Girl at first. She’s really good at chemistry and mostly just wants to be left alone. She becomes friends with Nick and Monroe to keep them from blowing up anything (else) in chem class.

Hank would be the smart, sexy jock with a heart of gold, the kind of guy that only exists in the realms of fiction for the most part. He’s a total sweetheart and is kind of an unlikely defender of all those weird loners I mentioned up there.

Wu is probably the nerdiest nerd to ever nerd, but he’s also super funny so he becomes the Unlikely Popular Nerd/Class Clown who everybody invites to parties because he’s hilarious, but that few really get to know.
