the-life-of-daphne:

in the german credits he’s listed as Eddie Monroe

The Eddie Monroe thing started partly because in a very early draft of the script, his name was actually “Eddy Monroe.” (I actually recommend reading that whole thing, it’s pretty wild…I love seeing what the show looked like in the writers’ minds before it got trimmed down for television.)

The rumor of the name got out during the early press for the show in season one, and everyone started to assume his name was Eddie. Probably not helped by things like what you mention here (and I think it’s even in one of the early interviews with him, like the little bar at the bottom lists him as the guy who plays Eddie Monroe, though I don’t have a source for that one).

However, they’ve never once in the show referenced Eddie (or Eddy) Monroe. And in fact Silas Weir Mitchell has addressed here and here that the name of his character is not Eddie Monroe.

“It’s just Monroe, just for the record,” he says in the first article. And in the second:

“Somehow the name Eddie Monroe mistakenly got out there and now everyone assumes my character’s name is Eddie Monroe – for the record it’s just Monroe.”

The “Eddie Monroe” question is practically a part of Grimm fandom history!

Now if only the teams that do text inserts, credits, and govern what goes into the tie-ins would get their act together and stop causing us poor fans so much confusion! -_-
